Transfer of waypionts to iFinder GO2.

Recommended Posts

;) After two weeks of conversing with Lowrance by email, they determined I could transfer waypoints to the GO2 with the PC D15 data cable and their GDM software. I bought the cable from Tiger GPS. It arrived and I couldn't figure out how to the get the waypoints to the GPS, or even how to get my CPU to read I had the GPS plugged into it. I called their 1-800 number and talked to a tech rep for about 40 minutes. After she claimed it couldn't be done (the transferring) I told her Lowrance emailed me saying I could. She came back on to say I need to download Memory-Map, found on page 24 in their international catalog section. I still can't get the waypoints to the GPS, it says GPS timeout every time I try. I have read the other thread about this, I did not understand one bit of it. I have also read Airmapper's guide, still didn't get it. I tried Easy GPS, which lists the GO2, couldn't get that to work either. So can you help me?

Catalog(Info on page 24): http://www.lowrance.com/Downloads/Catalogs...og-Lowrance.pdf

Memory-Map: http://www.memory-map.com/

Thanks.

Edit: Not sure if this applies but

OS: Windows XP

Browser: IE 6

Any other info needed?

Funny that Lowrance would recommend GDM for use with the Go series. Previously they said it wouldn't work and other users have confirmed this.

Can you translate into something I can understand? (very simple would work best)

What was said in the other topic, not what you specifically typed. ;)

In theroy you can download waypoints from a PC. (If you are a Computer NERD)

Most people will buy a better GPS that downloads Waypoints in Normal GPS File Formats

I got that much. I wish I would have realized I wanted a GPS with a cable that will work when I first bought my GPS.

Um... probably not. Here's as simple as I can make it, but to get any more detailed I would just be rehashing what's in the other thread.
  • The Lowrance Go series will accept waypoint uploads through the serial port in a format called NMEA sentences.
  • GPSBabel can read waypoint information from files on your computer (e.g., LOC or GPX files downloaded from geocaching.com) and send them out the serial port in the format the Go requires.
  • Numerous other programs can send the same data through the serial port. GPSBabel is the most widely useful one even if it isn't the simplest to understand or set up.

Now, if you want to know the EXACT settings to use, commands to give to GPS Babel or other programs you might use... it's been asked and answered in that other thread and I don't know if I can explain it any better.
