+JoeKache
I have an magellan explorist 500 le with the AAA battery clip. I can go for about 3-4 hours with a set of AAA batteries. I want to buy a rechargeable lion battery but I was wondering if I need a special charger or I can charged it with my USB cable directly from my computer ? Quote Link to comment
+albsch
I purchased my battery direct from Magellan for $20 shipped including a 110 volt cable. There are after markets one available but I did not want to screw with the Magellan warantee. The power cable hooks directly to the usb cable at the Y adapter, this is how I charge mine. With the after market batteries I believe you will also need to purchase a charger. You will really like the Li-ion battery and will get about 14 to 16 hours use out of it before you need to recharge. If you are interested Magellan still has the offer on their web site. +embra
The Li-ion battery will charge in the GPS with the USB cable attached...it just takes a longer time than when using the 110v charger. Quote Link to comment
NSB
I went to the Magellan website to buy the $20 battery/ charger and they want $25-$40 to ship it to Canada!! They could put other items on the truck to cut down on the cost! Quote Link to comment
+EScout
Here are some ways to charge the Li-Ion battery: From the left, the eXplorist AC wall-wart and a car adapter for a Dell Axim X5 PDA. These plug into the Y in the data cord. Next is a universal USB wall-wart and a universal car adapter, for the USB end of the data cord. Best if you use one of the first two for speed in charging. Other than the eXplorist charger, I got the others for $1 each at a 99cent store and a monthly electronics swap meet. Quote Link to comment
+msubobcats
I've had a battery and charger ordered from the Magellan website for weeks. Backordered and no info on when I can expect shipment. I should buy stock in Duracell for the time being... Go cats Quote Link to comment
britishcanuk
I went to the Magellan website to buy the $20 battery/ charger and they want $25-$40 to ship it to Canada!! They could put other items on the truck to cut down on the cost! Thats odd. I just ordered 2 battery/adapter bundles, a car charger and a canvas carrying case and the total shipping to Ontario was $13 for everything. You should try again. Quote Link to comment
+JoeKache
Thanks for the info... I looked at Magellan website and saw the rechargeable battery but as mentionned the shipping to Canada was pretty expensive. If I can charge the battery with the USB cable I'm gonna check for rechargeable battery on Ebay. Quote Link to comment
+embra
If I can charge the battery with the USB cable I'm gonna check for rechargeable battery on Ebay. That works; you just need to be patient with it as it takes a while on USB. Quote Link to comment
+JoeKache
I bought a rechargeable battery on ebay....I don't know what happened but I received 2 batteries for the price of one... here's the battery I also bought a USB wall charger and a USB car charger for charging the gps. The rechargeable battery seems to have a greater life than the 3 AAA clip. Quote Link to comment
The Man
I just picked up the Solio solar charger. It trickle charged the E 600 overnight. Plus I plugged it in directly to the Solio while on a drive and had the Solio suction-cupped to the sunroof, which worked well. Edited March 24, 2007 by The Man Quote Link to comment
