  1. I updated mine yesterday and it worked perfectly (are we sure this is actually Magellan software here? ) Coming from a sportrak i kinda missed the extra screens and you can shut them off if you wish.
  2. I went to the Magellan website to buy the $20 battery/ charger and they want $25-$40 to ship it to Canada!! They could put other items on the truck to cut down on the cost!
  3. Always track up for me. I use it on an ATV with a ram mount and the track up keeps more of the screen displaying the terrain ahead.
  4. Good points on the dropping and increases in SD card size. If they say 8 hrs of battery life i'd figure 6. Kind of like the new car that claims 40 mpg gets 25mpg at best. I've been hoping the best elements of the auto gps and handheld models would combine. Seems like there are 10 auto models for every handheld model lately. Still i think this is a step in the right direction, but i'll be waiting for the price to drop.
  5. I'm in the exact same boat. So far i have been loading map sections just under the max size and i will have to switch detail maps when travelling from one area to another. Would be nice to just have one huge detail map, hence the reason for buying a 1 gig card.
  6. I still use a sportrak color with topo Canada and have Norton. No problems like that here but i do get the exterme slowness and constant HD spinning. I'm on the verge of wiping the HD. I have found that you have to connect the sportrak to the computer, turn the gpsr on and the open mapsend. If i open mapsend first it will not find the gps.
  7. I haven't seen anything like that with my 500 yet or from my sportrak color. I do have an old Magellan 2000 that would have fits and read N/S fine but would say i was about 5 km west of my position. It would do that for a few weeks and then go back to normal.
  8. It is not possible to load Google onto your gps. I believe Magellans maps are your only choice.
