What is a vitrual travelbug?

I think I already have an idea of what they are, question is are they still allowed?

 

One of my brand new caches got stolen with a brand new TB in it. So I'm thinking - could I turn that tracking # into a vitrual TB?

Your travel bug risks being locked down by Groundspeak if it's moved around to places where the tag and item do not physically visit. Why waste your investment? After waiting a suitable time to see if your missing bug turns up, either release the "COPY" tag on a replacement item, or simply include the tracking number on a goal sheet attached to the traveling item.

So basically, no, virtual TBs are not allowed?

 

If I were to post a vitrual TB, I would require cachers to only log in into a virtual cache and only while logging a find on it.

I'm not sure you can log TB into virtual caches

 

Generally a virtual TB would be one that the number is just given out for people to log, (vs a regular TB in which people must find, and maybe move, a certain item to log it). The thing about virtuals it the miles it racks up are just made up, and it doesn't really mean anything. When Groundspeak finds them, they get locked!

 

Just do what keystone said , wait a while to be sure your orginal won't show up, then release another copy of the TB.
