+DuuhMojo Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 (edited) Hey all, This is my first post on Geocaching.com and there will be more to come. I've been reading up for a while now on Geocaching and I am about to buy a "entry" GPSr unit. I am going to purchase the Garmin eTrex Venture Cx. This unit seems to have everything I need to start off with. I am located in Canada and I was goign to order the Venture from GPS Central. http://www.gpscentral.ca Has anyone delt with this company or have any feed back before I place my order? Also do most people also get a compass for geocaching or just use the GPSr? Cheers, Marcus Edited February 15, 2007 by DuuhMojo Quote
+RRLover Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Marcus : My choice is to carry maps and non-electronic compass if going deep backwoods, neither if doing urban or rural. YMMV Also do most people also get a compass for geocaching or just use the GPSr? Cheers, Marcus Quote
+Red90 Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 (edited) GPSCentral is top notch and you'll never hear a complaint from anyone. The Venture Cx is a great choice and definitely Garmin's best bang for the buck handheld. Where are you located? You may be able to find a friendly local cacher that will donate their stock micro-SD card. Edited February 15, 2007 by Red90 Quote
+DuuhMojo Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 Hey Gang, Thanks for the prompt replies. I'm located in Ottawa, Ontario. I'll be placing my order on GPSCentral tonight for my GPSr. If anyone is in the Ottawa area drop me a line, it's always nice to hear from locals and get tips. Cheers! Marcus. +DustyWalker Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I have done a fair amount of business with GPS Central and have had great luck with them. Great prices and great service. It usually takes just a few days to get your order. Like the others, I carry a compass if venturing far from the road, but don't use it unless my GPS konks out. Quote
