tbirdzz Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Hi all, I am seriously considering buying the explorist 500 traveler bundle with Mapsend as my first GPS. I will use it for navigation in my jeep in the city, mountian biking, and geocaching. I am on a budget of about $250.00. Is this recommended or is there a better choice? Thanks for your advise/reply, Dan Quote

+Rockin Roddy Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 If it's the Mapsend 3D Topo, you'll be doing fine buying that unit...AS LONG as the Mapsend is INCLUDED! If you have to buy the Mapsend software, it'll cost about $150 (barring any coupons or promotions)...I don't have the Directroute yet, so I can't say about that. Mapping software is expensive!! Most times it doesn't come with the unit...but I have seen it bundled with the 400 Wilderness...you say it's bundled...if so, good deal!! The Mapsend Topo 3D is the software your going to need probably the most...it's got the detailed maps including all the POIs (like gas stations, restaurants etc..) and TOPO info! I THINK directroute will give you turn by turn instructions, I'm not sure but I think you need the Topo 3D as well with that! (I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE ON THIS). Quote
