sandman825
So how do I put maps on my GPS? I have a Garmin eTrex. I have a program called TrackMaker right now, but I can't really find any downloads for my area. Can you help me out? Edited January 2, 2007 by sandman825 Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
First you need a model that handles maps. The basic yellow eTrex does not. Then you need to buy the GPS manufacturer's mapping software and follow the instructions that come with it. Quote Link to comment
Neo_Geo
Is that a YELLOW eTrex, or an eTrex Legend, Vista, Venture, Camo? You can only load maps into the Legend and Vista. The Venture, Camo and Yellow will not accept maps. If it is a Legend or Vista, then the only maps you can load are Garmin MapSource maps. You can use TrackMaker to transfer and save tracks, routes and waypoints, but it's useless for your mapping needs. Edited January 2, 2007 by Neo_Geo Quote Link to comment

Auto-routing street/highway maps, TOPO maps, marine maps??? For auto-routing maps I think you have to use the MapSource software that was shipped with the eTrex and, using MapSource, load auto-routing maps purchased from Garmin. Don't know about other kinds of maps. Quote Link to comment

So do I need to scan a map into TrackMaker tell where my tracks are and are going? Edited January 2, 2007 by sandman825 Quote Link to comment
+NightPilot
If you want to look at your tracks on your PC, get USAPhotomaps. You can download topo maps, aerial photos, or satellite pics, and download the tracks and waypoints directly from your GPS, and view them on the maps/photos. Very nice donationware.
