+Sputnik 57
For some on-line resources, you may want to check out Thot's Beginner's Guide Markwell's Update to the FAQ and CyBret's Geocacher University. Lot's of great advice there for beginners. Welcome to the recreational activity/sport/hobby! Quote Link to comment
+HaLiJuSaPa
Idiot's Guide to Geocaching is a good book too. GPS for Dummies has a chapter on caching. Quote Link to comment

You just can't go wrong with that. I own this book. I've read it cover to cover. Its a great book. I bought it and read it while waiting for my GPS to arrive in the mail. Later I put it in a.50 cal ammo can along with a bunch of other stuff in my Scrooge's Strongbox cache. Another cacher picked it up from there. Quote Link to comment

You just can't go wrong with that. I own this book as well and I also highly recommend it. I also own: Geocaching: Hiding, Hiking, and High-Tech by Erik Sherman (Author) Which in some cases had better technical detail, but isn't as well written. Quote Link to comment
+geognerd
You might want to take a trip to your local library first. Mine has 3 or 4 books about geocaching, your library might have some too. Quote Link to comment
