Photobuff
Hmmm... with no description how did they come up with coordinates and how do they know it was ever placed at all? Quote Link to comment
Papa-Bear-NYC
There must have been records of the station from a triangulation that was done. There are two reference points and adjusted horizontal coordinates. The "local resident's not knowing anything about it" is hardly meaningful since the triangulation may have been done 30 years prior and "local residents" are notoriously unreliable. I have found stations that are there which local residents knew nothing about. There's not much to look for though, so I'd give up. I've occasionally chased marks with no description, or even unpublished datasheets, but usually the designation is enough to look for something. For example I visited the site of "KU3929 LONG IS CTY LOFT CDY CO TANK". No data is published by ther NGS but the coordinates point to the old Loft Candy Company and sure enough there's a water tank on the roof at the correct coordinates. So logged that as "FOUND" in my own list. Of course since it's not published,. no one else knows (except now you guys know ) In this case, the data is published, it's just incomplete. Interestingly, one of the reference points "Cherry East Base" is unpublished with a designation "N No geodetic control at this mark". Sounds like a fair amount of information was lost. So just go to the exact coordinates, and look for a Cherry. Simple Pb Edited January 23, 2006 by Papa-Bear-NYC Quote Link to comment
