Garmin Street Pilot Iii Replacement

Recommended Posts

We have a Garmin SP3 in the car for navigation and in general it does what it should...

we have loaded the UK speed sorry safety camera POI map and that is great apart from the SP3 does not have an option for warning you when you approach a "defined type" of POI .... also today traffic on the M4 was naff so we hit the route avoid option which again failed to work ... I Have NO clue how the avoid route option on a SP3 works and no one seems able to advise how it works...

So thoughts for a new in car GPS ... (not Geocaching)

1. Its for the UK (95%) and Europe (5%)

2. Needs Safety camera warning capability

3. Needs a "this road is stuffed" reroute avoiding the next X miles of this road option

4. Route to X avoiding the "A324"

The Garmins from mid '05 have this. i know 2720 does and at least some subset of the C3xx's will do it. Look for "user poi" function. It recognizes a certain format of POI names that includes the speed limit and if you're going over that when you get within a certain distance of the POI, it squawks.

The GPSpassion.com forums are an excellent source of info on the Garmin dashtops and very well represented by the U.K. and Europe.
