2oldfarts (the rockhounders)
Here's a fun way to search your county benchmark database using GSAK. Have you ever wondered how many rivets were set in your county? Or maybe rock cairns, or chiseled marks? It's quick and easy using the Search (filter). Click on Search at the top left of the main GSAK screen and select filter. In the box next to "Full text search" type "Marker: 'type of mark you want to search for' ". It will look list this example for rivets - "Marker: R = RIVET" but without the quotes. (Coconino county has 43 PIDs for rivets) "Marker: 57 = LOOKOUT TOWER" without the quotes will show the forest fire lookout towers that have PIDs. Just pick a type from the list and search. Have fun. +IncitatusMaximus
A dolphin is a type of buoy supported by pilings. You'd find it in the ocean, most likely. See this page for more info. Edited August 17, 2005 by IncitatusMaximus Quote Link to comment

See this page for more info. IncitatusMaximus, Thank you! Your first post was to teach us a thing or two about benchmarks. Although I found the 'Finned not Scaled' very funny & 'Harry' rather appropiate. A buoy (green in color), so I guess that is why there are no 'dolphins' in Coconino County, Arizona. Better get a boat if you are going to go find any of these or the NOS HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY DISKS. I take this to mean ocean survey disks? Shirley~ Quote Link to comment
