1:24,000 Scale Of Usgs Maps

Recommended Posts

Can one download 1:24,000 of USGS maps off the web, or does one need to buy a certain software containing the maps?

Do you mean just to look at on your computer? Or are you trying them into your GPS and see them there? What is it you want to do with these maps?

Or you could just go straight to the USGS Map Viewer:

Or the National Map Viewer:

I'm not sure exactly what the differences between the two are, but they both have User Instruction links at the bottom of the pages.

I like them because you can zoom in anywhere in the US, and view many other types of maps besides the USGS Topos. You can view different resolutions, besides the 1:24K USGS maps, Orthoimagery (Aerial photo maps), Elevation (Relief) maps, and a bunch of other stuff...

You can also print whatever you see in the map window, at whatever zoom level is shown.

Seems overwhelming at first, but play with it a little while, and you will see there is some neat stuff.

The best part, is that its FREE!

The worst part, is that it can be slow refreshing the maps....Probably horribly if you're on dial-up...
