Geocaching Mobile Midlet

Hi All,

 

I recently received a brand new mobile, a Nokia 6600, which, though very impressive, did not run the Geocaching Midlet.

 

While Geocaching UK are getting around to host it for me, you can try it out by pointing your Nokia 6600 phones WAP browser here:

 

http://gemoli.com:8080/gc/

 

(sorry, this is fiddly using just the phone keypad)....

 

Or,, The old version is still at it's usual place:

 

http://mobile.guk2.com

 

The new version has no more functionality added, It's just compatable with Nokia Series 60 Phones.

Oooh, that looks handy, and if it works on my Sony t610, better than wap.geocaching.com, which wants the location in decimal degrees, and doesn't give cache descriptions, only hints (unless I'm using it wrong)

 

I shall have to have a go with this.

 

BTW: your webpage has a TODO, how can a user easily find their userID?

Simply point at your own name in the forum, and the link has the number at the end (eg - yours is 99247, and mine is 256156)

Nice little app, seems to work well

Out of interest, how does it fetch the cache data? As I can only retrive caches using GPRS and not normal GSM WAP.

 

Also, I couldn't get the http://gemoli.com:8080/gc/ to load on my phone (6600).

the http://gemoli.com:8080/gc/ points to a Wap page...... You should be able to get to this...

 

I developed it on a Nokia 6600, so I'm sure it should work. What network are you on? (Orange/Vodaphone/etc).

 

PS...Just tried the link again, I get a 'App Closed Browser' message. I needed to turn off/ turn on my phone before it worked. Try this.

This is a great utility and forms our paperless back up system. Worked much better when we put our ID in as well !!

I was getting some sort of 'Could not load page error'.

I'm on O2 and I think various ports are blocked in their WAP service, which was why I wondered how it was grabbing the cache data. It doesn't particularily matter, cince I can access it all fine using GPRS. Just sits there saying 'connecting' on normal wap.

I'm having trouble installing the old version on my Nokia 7250i. I have created the bookmark to http://stats.guk2.com/caches/mobile_midlet.jad, but when I goto it I get "file too large" message.

 

Can anyone help please.

Opps.... Found a spelling mistake in my .jad...... For anyone who tried, and failed to get the new Nokia series 60 version, try again now. Hopefully it will work this time!

I use this WAP site which I find works excellently (provides ability to view full cache description and log finds as well as decoding hints)

Couldn't get the gemoli site to load on my Nokia 6600 but will try and get the others too work
