Archiving

I am new to the game and have figured most things but have not found out what happens when a cache site is "archived". What a great sport and excuse to get out and about.

A cache is archived when it has been removed from its posted location and/or it has been determined to be located in an inappropriate location (such as within a national park). You should not attempt to find an archived cache.

I archived a cache for the first time a couple of days ago, GC33E2-Inglis Falls. I noticed that it came off the list of caches within 100 miles but I expected it to stay on the list for a few days with a line through it to indicate it's been archived. How are people who have already downloaded it going to know that they should take it off their GPS unit if they don't see it on the list with the line through it?

If they're smart, they take a minute to review the pages for the caches they intend to seek that day before they leave the house. But unfortunately, I think we have all had our "not too smart" days.

If the cache is on your "watch list" you get a notification that it has been archived.
