Leaving tracks.

A simple question I am sure. I have just bought a Garmin etrex and when I enter a waypoint and take a walk away from it using the map screen I can see the little figure walking but he doesn't leave any tracks. Should he be leaving tracks(a trail)on the screen?

Thanks for the info.

Are you zoomed in all the way? If not you are trying to see your 5 foot trail against a background the size of your tri-state area.

I don't have an eTrex, but on my GPS III+, you have to turn on tracking. To do so on that unit, you must press the Menu key twice, select "Track Logs," then press Menu again and select "Setup Logging." There are three settings: Off (which it sounds like is your current setting), Fill (in which the track log fills and then stops when memory capacity is reached), and Wrap (in which the oldest track points are deleted one by one after memory capacity is reached and new points are added).

Sorry, I guess that when the little guy is walking on the eTrex screen, it means that a track is recording. That'll teach me to try to answer questions about a GPS I don't own! icon_smile.gif
