Pocket Query

I am having a problem with the pocket queries. I will send it in and sometime I will get it and sometimes I wont. I am checking all the boxes correctly and it has worked before, so I know its not being filtered from my ISP. HELP

Odds are that you've selected a combination of boxes that returns zero caches. Since there is nothing to send, you get nothing. Depending on your PQ settings, it could be that you have contradictory criteria, too short a date range, too restrictive an area or cache type, etc.

You can test your settings by unchecking all of the "days to generate" boxes on the PQ set up page, then click "Submit Information" and finally click on "Run the Search" on the page that appears after you've clicked on "Submit Information" on the PQ set up page. If nothing comes back, modify your criteria so that you get some results!

Sometimes a pocket query can get held up because of content (it is basically just a big zipped XML text file). Overeager spam filters will peek at the zipped file. For example, if the "Viagra Travel Bug" is passing through the area covered by your Pocket Query, your spam filter may reject that e-mail.

Another reason is periodic technical problems with the website. There are lots of possible explanations, really. The best thing to do is write to contact at geocaching dot com, explain the problem you are having, and ask them to research your account to confirm that the queries are being generated and delivered to your ISP's e-mail server. If they are, and you can receive logs to prove that, then the problem is on your end.

Yeah, I just became a premium member and ran into that problem myself.

It isn't really a problem, it is just something that requires some understanding.

If you put in a query and select Thursday for the run day and it is Thursday it may or may not run. If you want an immediate (or nearly so) result emailed to you you need to check the 'run once and delete' checkbox.

Then it runs right away and once you have the file you can go back and uncheck the checkbox.

Long story short is if you want to generate a PQ file on the fly you need to check that checkbox or it can take a long time or it may not run at all that day. At least that has been my experience to date.

Once you have your files it is no longer an issue, just set your query up to run once a week or whatever and it will get mailed to you on that day.
