+jotne
EGNOS will be operational by June 2005 for non “safety of life” applications and will be certified for “safety of life” applications by 2006. This will allow EGNOS to be integrated into the management of air traffic control, offering greater safety and a better operational flexibility. http://www.esa.int/esaNA/SEM8M3SMD6E_index_0.html Quote Link to comment
+Dan_Edwards
So will this system use the same channels as GPS? If so then there would be a great reason for 14+ channel handhelds. If not, will any of the current handhelds be able to use the Egnos data? Quote Link to comment

As far as I've heard:all current handhelds that are WAAS compatible will be EGNOS compatible......EGNOS is the European version of WAAS. Since we (I'm from Holland) can't use WAAS,Egnos will be our alternative and it will only be of use when you're in Europe (as WAAS will only work in the US of A). Quote Link to comment
+jotne
You only need data from one Egnos/Waas bird to get the correction data. Until the European GPS satellite system is in place, you do not need more than 12 channels. Quote Link to comment
