brawney
Please help me in my research on this Magellan GPS 315. I have several of these new in sealed boxes and would like to know what they are worth today. Quote Link to comment
+Learned Gerbil
It is a good solid unit wit ha good ariel that just lacks the bells and whistles. Plenty of people, including me use the 315 or 320 (an identicle unit) successfully for caching. Search eBay for "gos 315" for some idea if what they sell for online. Plenty of people bid on them. 4x4van
Yup, good solid units. Even without WAAS, they are extremely accurate. The only thing they really lack is detailed mapping, although their built in base map does have a worldwide city database. Quote Link to comment
+PDOP's
Good unit just be sure to upgrade to the latest firmware as per topic from a week ago. Quote Link to comment
+Kewaneh & Shark
The Magellan 315 is a solid little unit. I use a Magellan Meridian Gold now, but my first GPSr was a 315 and I still have it as a backup (although I have yet to actually use it as such). As far as pricing them, they can't be worth too much. Relative to the newer models on the market, they have low memory, crude graphics, and only show the decimal minutes to two places, (three places is now standard) unless the firmware has been updated. A hundred bucks will get you a new, low-end ETrex that has many more bells and whistles. That's not to say that you won't find buyers for them. I'm sure you will. Searching EBay for current asking/selling pricing is a good suggestion. Good luck. Keep on Caching! - Kewaneh Quote Link to comment
+Learned Gerbil
No. It is the 310 that only ran to two places. The 315 and 320 are as accruate as any modern unit with WAAS turned off. Secondhand 315s go for $80+ on ebay. I think I got a bargain getting my 320 for £50 a year ago. Quote Link to comment
4x4van
And actually, the 315 has more features than the yellow Etrex. Just to name a few; it has 8 or 9 different navigation screens, holds more routes, can display 2 different datums/coordinate systems simultaneously, includes a built-in worldwide cities database, calculates not only sun/moon position/phase but also best hunting/fishing times, and includes Magellan's "northfinder" feature, which is worth it's weight in gold, IMO. nchmura
I have a 330 (somewhat similar) and do like it. However, i have been on the lookout for deals and typically see these sell brand new for as little as $100 and used from anywhere $70 - $100. If you end up looking to sell a few of these on the cheap, keep me in the loop Quote Link to comment
