Guest Ron Bopp
what is a way point? Here is an example of a waypoint from a cache in my area GC1EE what does that mean? Thanks Ron Quote Link to comment
Guest doc_api
My understanding is that the waypoint ID's are really nothing more than a unique identifier for each cache to help keep them from being mixed up. I beleive Jeremy assigns the numbers to each cache as they are posted. You can name the waypoints into your gps to readily identify them later Quote Link to comment
Guest jeremy
The word "waypoint" on all the caches is actually a hyperlink to the glossary. I explain it there - "Geocaching uses a suggested waypoint for a cache, created automatically when a cache has been created. Because most GPS units have restricted names to 6 characters or less, we generate a waypoint name based on the ID of the cache. It is optional, but makes it easier to locate a cache on the geocaching web site. " Jeremy Quote Link to comment
Guest garywil
formation into your gps. Thus you end up with the waypoints you might add for a given cache all neatly lined up in a row in a waypoint list. Quote Link to comment
