Which Mapping Software Should I Get?

Hi all,

I have a Garmin Legend and would like to improve the existing software. I'm mainly looking for roads/landmarks and don't have much use for topo data right now. I've looked at a few things from MapSource but does anybody on here have anything else to recommend? I'm interested in maps of Oregon by the way.

If you want maps to upload to your GPSr, than you're limited to Mapsource products. City Select or Metroguide are your main choices. If you just want some thing to run on your computer and upload waypoints to your GPSr, than your choices are much wider. Fugawi and Oziexplorer are both excellent mapping application, as well, MS Streets & Trips is well regarded... Mostly it comes down to how much $$ you wanna spend....

Note that if you want to upload any type of map data to your Legend, your only choice will be Garmin maps. This is the same for Magellan and just about any other GPS brand available. The other mapping products mentioned in this thread will allow you to view maps on your PC but not on your GPS. You may want to check out MapSource US Roads & Recreation or MapSource US Topo...both have roads and landmarks with R & R having street name detail and Topo having Topo lines but with limited street name detail (main streets are named but smaller streets are not). Both are outdated as far as streets go but they are still very useful for caching. Because of their small map segment sizes, they will work well with your Legend's 8MB.
