Hi gang,

 

I'm a bit confused in regards to the Bearing/Heading data fields. For example, if I'm navigating to a waypoint, and change one of the data fields to show the heading it will display N, NE, SW S etc. which is what it is supposed to do.

 

But if I change the data field to Bearing, it still shows N, NE, SW, S etc... shouldn't it display the bearing in degrees, such as 270? Am I wrong in assuming this? Is there no option to show the heading/bearing in degrees?

No, heading shows which way you are currently heading. Bearing show the direction to your GOTO waypoint. Nothing to do with how the direction is displayed. I don't have an etrex, but look in your setup menu and switch your direction display from cardinal letters to numeric degrees.

Silly me I know the difference between heading and bearing. I should have phrased my question as to how to show degrees instead of cardinal letters.

On the main menu go to the setup icon. From the setup menu go to the heading icon. From here you can change the display box from degrees to cardinal letters or mils. You can also select true or magnetic etc......

 

Hope this helped, you have to dig fairly deep into some of the menus to find what you're looking for....

When I change from cardinal letters to degrees I can not find any difference in the heading display. When I set it on mils it's different but not the other two. What am I missing?
