+The Hokesters
Hope this isn't against forum protocol but we are looking for a good pub or B&B near to some good cachin' and that would allow Hokeydog in the room. Any ideas? The Hokesters... Quote Link to comment
Leoness
Anywhere, in particular? We have a dog and regularly stay in Travelodges and Inns which accept dogs, so might be able to help. Quote Link to comment
+The Hokesters
Thanks Leoness. We have absolutely no preference although we don't want too long a drive from our home town of Derby. Any recommendation is welcome although we would like somewhere with good food and beer Quote Link to comment
+Pharisee
I've stayed at The Angel Inn in Alston, Cumbria a few times. There's some excellent caches in the area, the accommodation is as cheap as you'll find anywhere, the breakfast is superb and the beer excellent (the barmaid is a real 'cracker', too). Rumours that my Auntie Sue runs the place are totally without foundation Unfortunately, not being a 'dog person', I have no idea whether dogs are welcome but it'll only cost you a phone call to find out. Oh yes, they have an excellent evening menu 6 days of the week; they don't cook on a Tuesday evening. So... all in all... that's not very helpful, is it? Leoness
For The Lake District... The Britannia Inn at Elterwater. Excellent guest beers (some at 8%), however small rooms and very popular with fell walkers so need to book well in advance. Dogs are welcome. Excellent full English breakfast and the whole Lake District on your doorstep for some excellent caches. http://www.britinn.co.uk/ For Yorkshire Dales... The Wheatsheaf at Carperby. Not actually stayed overnight here but visited recently for a pint (Masham ales) and noticed they accept dogs overnight by arrangement. I can recommend all of the caches in the Yorkshire Dales!!! http://www.wheatsheafinwensleydale.co.uk/ For the Home Counties (and possibly London)... Redcoats Farmhouse Hotel near Stevenage, Herts Owned and run by good friends of mine, they have dogs of their own so appreciate it if you don't let yours wander around the grounds off the lead! Accommodation (with dogs) is usually in the converted stable block rather than in the house. Excellent food but pricey. (I persuaded their chef to give me his ice cream recipe). Best ale is Adnams, drawn directly from the barrel in the cellar. http://www.redcoats.co.uk/ Apart from those, we often use Travelodges as they are relatively inexpensive and accept dogs but the accommodation is basic and breakfast is extra at the Little Chef. They are also all over the country so we can usually find one near to where we want to stay. http://www.travelodge.co.uk/ I hope this helps. You could always try typing "pets welcome" into your web browser and see what it comes up with! Quote Link to comment

The Britannia is lovely - the bar is always full of dogs and their owners (mind you its not that big so thats 3 or 4 dogs). Also you could try The New Dungeon Ghyll very accomodating for dogs, the only place they are not allowed is the restaurant and they will serve meals in the bar if you canine companion can't bear to be parted from you. The Wheatsheaf at Carperby is also highly recommended we spent a pleasant week there and the food is triific. Checkout the Dog Friendly awards for other places - we have a place like this near us and its wonderfull. Hope that helps. Chris Quote Link to comment
