Hesitantly Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 Tracks d/l from my GPSMAP 76/cs to MapSource V6.1 don't show leg times, leg speeds, nor the Elapsed Time and Avg Speed at the bottom of the Properties dialog. Anyone else solve this problem already? Quote
+Timpat Posted June 5, 2004 Posted June 5, 2004 ...Anyone else solve this problem already? I just downloaded tracks from my Map60C and MapSource V6.1 that I'm using shows all the data fields you mentioned. Everything works fine for mine. Perhaps try to reinstall V6.1? Quote

I was having the same problem with 5.4, so today I installed 6.1 and it didn't solve the issue. I *think* I saw this kind of information the first time I did a track which was just a week or so ago. I think I also have all the latest versions of software installed. I wrote an email to techsupp@garmin.com, but they aren't really fast at replying, I've noticed. Thanks for your reply. Quote

Anyone else solve this problem already? You have to download the track as the "active log" in order to get all the info. If you save the track in your GPSR then you lose any date/time record as well as the number of track points are greatly condensed. Do not clear the active log until you get a chance to download it first even if you have to deselect "wrap when full" (in track setup) in order to prevent the section you want from being over-written. Hesitantly Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 You have to download the track as the "active log" in order to get all the info. ... Olar Thanks, Olar! I was just signing on to report that I found that out. I decided to NOT clear the log after the last of 3 tracks I saved (thinking it would make no difference, but I'd try it, anyway). Lo-and-behold, the ACTIVE LOG downloaded with the 3 tracks, and it showed the 'missing' info. I didn't realize that Save would reduce the number of points in a track. But, I can see why it does it - the Active log had one point every second while I was stopped for a while, but the saved track didn't. I fail to see the logic behind deleting timing info when saving, however! It can't take that much more space, and is a heck of a lot more convenient to save a bunch of small tracks, as you go, than to try to split them after d/l one big active log. Maybe you lose the info when trying to split the d/l, too? I haven't tried that, but I will now. Quote
Hesitantly Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 Yep, cut or copy, and paste works fine and keeps all the info. Quote

Anyone else solve this problem already? The topic has been covered before...without much fanfare.....as apparently few people really are interested in getting "all" the detail they can from "saved" tracks. Not sure what Garmins logic is, but it's simply a matter of a software correction to make everyone happy. From a practical point of view, having the ability to save two (2) tracks with the "active" characteristics would do the job for most if not all. Accurately documenting where you have gone during an outing is simple, easy, and acurate with an "active" (not-saved) track. Using a "saved" track to do the same is not just a compromise...it's worthless. Change the format.....2 "detailed" active/saved tracks available....the balance of memory would be the limited info "saved" tracks. Quote
Hesitantly Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 I don't necessarily think anything needs to be changed in the operation of the unit's software; I think I can manage by separating several short tracks out of the active log when I get back to my PC, if I need to do that. However, I'm one of those anal types (a programmer) who RTFM, and their manual never mentions the fact that I would lose data by "saving" a track on the 76cs! Logically, to preclude the possibility of filling up, or wrapping, the log area, I was saving tracks defining a set of movements having a distinct meaning to me. Of course, now that I know of the data loss, I can make the choice of whether to sacrafice part of the data, or risk losing ALL of a beginning portion of the active log, or cutting the whole thing off prematurely. I'm still learning how this all works, and Garmin could have saved us from my diatribe by use of a simple #$%$@ footnote in their manual. My apologies for rehashing an old post. Quote
