+mrsr71
Can a Garmin iQue 3600 be used for geocaching ? Thanks... Quote Link to comment
+RockyRiver
Yes, it can. However it has terrible battery run time on its built in battery (4-5 hours tops) , And the units don't like to be dropped, or banged around like other units that are more rugged. Quote Link to comment
+W7WT
I use Cachemate on the iQue to go paperless and also to route to the cache, but then I switch to my 76S for the actual hunt. Using CacheNav in a trial along side the 76S and it indicated exactly the same info as the 76S, but as pointed out above I wouldn't be comfortable doing the last of the hunt with one. Dick, W7WT Dick - I was also considering getting an ique. Given that you've run the 76 along with the Ique at the same time, I'm curious as to whether there was a difference in sensitivity between the two units. Does the 76 pull in signals while the ique fades in and out? I currently cache with a Garmin Forerunner watch, which I bought for marathon training. It does very well in open areas, and in moderate tree cover. Today I ran 6 miles in heavy tree cover and it did not pick up a signal at all the entire run. As such, I wonder if I'd be hesitant to get another unit that does not do well in the trees... Thanks Burt Quote Link to comment
+W7WT
Sorry Burt, I just came back and read your post. I only tested both the iQue using CacheNav and the 76S one time. I had them both in my Land Cruiser enroute to the cache site. The 76S has a quadhelix antenna which is supposed to be better. The cache I found was in a county park and not under heavy tree cover. I was amazed how close they read on everything. The iQue did as good job as the 76S. However if I had to do it today. I think I would get a 60c or a 76c both have the same routing as the iQue and are a lot more rugged with a better battery life. The palm part of the iQue with Cachemate installed does a great job of going paperless. I just sent my iQue to Garmin to check the battery. The battery just doesn't hold up enough to do any caches that may take some time. I carry the iQue in my pocket and just turn it on to check on a hint or read a previous log. Good luck to you.
