+SomewhereInND
In the last 6 months+ I have visited 120 caches, created about 15. I live in North Dakota, and currently each cache is at least 30 miles from the last one, I live in Minnesota in the Fall, so some of my caches were a little closer. Lately I would guess 2-3 Gallons / Cache. But that nothing, here are some of my other expenses $100 GPS $300 Pocket PC so I can go paperless (conserves enviroment) ???? Reams of paper used befoe going paperless $??? Batteries don't want to know $300 Waterproof digital camer so I can take pictures of course $??? More batteries $900 Upgraded to new PC so I can use Camera/PocketPC $60 For a tow (25 miles), broken fuel pump. $40 X ? Unexpeted hotel stays (fuel pump, etc...) $100 Speeding ticket, forgot I was in the boonies geocaching, Driving as if I was on interstate. $??? Hit a deer today, took out right side of my 94 Dodge Dakota, probably totaled it. $24000, thinking of buying a Subaru WRX, get me there faster, 4WD (wont get stuck), and better MPG then Dodge Dakota $2000 so I can go on a trip to Holland for 2 weeks to do some geocaching. Well maybe the full $2000 should not be blamed on geocaching, how about $1000. $??? Junk Food/Drinks Guy gets hungry/thirsty geocaching. $10 Tick spray/Mosquito Spray $??? Several pieces of clothing that were destroyed. Thorns, mud, general wear and tear.... $10 / new geocache, gotta buy the good ammo cans, notebooks, pencils.... $24 Travel bug Dog Tags Then theres the non financial expenses Sprained ankle, was going out for a day of geocaching, stepped of my front porch onto a loose rock, nearly busted my leg. Find Now, Log Later?
In the last 6 months+ I have visited 120 caches, created about 15.I live in North Dakota, and currently each cache is at least 30 miles from the last one ... Most of the things you list are NOT "hidden costs of geocaching." Edited May 28, 2004 by Bassoon Pilot Quote Link to comment

+writer
I think you should add in lessons and equipment for scuba diving, rock climbing, and kayaking so you can go after more of the 5/5 caches... Quote Link to comment

+Kitch
$5 in beer for "silent bob and marsha" since I bet him the Cache that I looked for was stolen. Turns out I was wrong. $5 in beer for writing in a log book saying that if he read the logbook I'd buy him a beer. $5 in beer for him writing in a log book saying that my cache was dumb and I owe him a beer for making him do a dumb cache. $25 X 20 nites (at least) for my bar tabs after night caching trips with "Silent Bob" and others... $50 in flowers for my wife...since I got caught out caching without her knowing. (She thought I was at work). Quote Link to comment
