Desert Drifter
Is there a way to import or download the waypoints from geocaching into Magellan mapsend topo? the software does not support .loc format. Thanks Quote Link to comment
+Marky
Gpsbabel will do that for you. The interface is command line, so may take a bit of getting used to, but it's very powerful. I'm not sure, but GSAK might be able to do that as well (since it uses gpsbabel under the covers). Edit: I see that Exporting to MapSend is on GSAK's general features list. --Marky Edited May 24, 2004 by Marky Quote Link to comment
Desert Drifter
I found that if I download into EasyGPS then into my Sportrak I can upload into Mapsend Topo. Mapsend only supports import function from excel spreadsheet. Seems kinda odd to me. Take care and thanks for the quick reply Quote Link to comment
+gussys
I use GSAK to handle my PQs. then you can upload them directly into mapsend topo or into the gps. Nice thing is that if you let GSAK send them into the GPS it dosent erase the WPs that you curently have Quote Link to comment
+embra
Marky pretty much answered the question, but just to finsih it off: Open your gpx or loc file into GSAK, then file/export/MapSend WPT file will creat a file that can be opened in MapSend with the Waypoints/Load from file menu choice. GPSBabel will do it directly, too, if you can create the proper command line. Most people will find GSAK easier to navigate. Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
OK, that's twice in the same thread that GPSBabel has been mentioned with scoffing "command line" shortly after it, so I'll throw in an "ahem". It's totally true that GSAK is a more featured program, and if you want to do something creatigve with your geocaching waypoints along the way, many people will find that easier. But there ARE GUIs for GPSBabel for Windows, OS/X, and anything that runs Tk. It's also true that the GUI doesn't expose the full power of GPSBabel, but if all you want to do is convert from one waypoint to another (as the original poster did) then it's quite adequate. http://gpsbabel.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html Quote Link to comment
Desert Drifter
I was very disappointed when I marked my home waypoint then uploaded it to Mapsend Topo. It marked my house about 2/10th of a mile down the hill from where it is. Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
Far more likely, that's an issue with map accuracy. Did you really mark it or did you geocode it? If the former, I'll bet that your backtrack logs don't match your roads, either. This is covered in the FAQs below. Quote Link to comment
