hurtinfeet
Is there a painless way to decode encrypted messages? Quote Link to comment
+Kouros
If you're still online (rather than out in the field) you can click on "decrypt" and the page will do it for you - otherwise, not really. After a while, you might learn to be able to 'read' the messages through the code. It takes a little effort. ------ "There's Sparticus. That's him, over there." Quote Link to comment
Mushtang
Did you mean the encrypted hint, or the encrypted caches that are meant to be puzzles? If it's just the hint, then press the decrypt button. If you're talking about the puzzle caches, then it's a little more difficult, but some of us would say "a little more fun". Part of the fun is figuring out what cipher was used to encrypt the text, which is not often easy at all. Post the name of the cache you're having trouble with and we'll try to give you some hints. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "A noble spirit embiggins the smallest man." - Jebediah Springfield ---------------------------------------------------------------- Quote Link to comment
+Shoebox
Perhaps you're looking for an easier way to decode the hints in the field? If that's the case and if you have a PDA, take a look at Hint Decoder 1.1, which can be found under links in the Geocaching Home page. With that program in the PDA, you can cut and paste the hint into the PDA memo and use the Hint Decoder to easily decode the hints as you need them. Beats decoding it letter for letter as the mosquitoes feast on you. Quote Link to comment
hurtinfeet
The decrypt button was just what I needed. Thanks for the help. Quote Link to comment
