Guest raymacke Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 I own some wooded acreage and would like to place a cache there but am concerned about problems with poor reception of some units. This time of year I think it would work OK but when everything leaves out would it be a problem? Any suggestions? Quote
Guest fryed Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 I say go ahead and place it in the woods. Even if we can't get a good reading we'll still give it a shot. Any challenge is a good challenge. Quote
Guest jeremy Posted February 13, 2001 Posted February 13, 2001 Around Seattle it's the *only* place to hide a cache (more or less). I now find a clearing and get a good satellite lock, and use a compass (or just a good idea of which way North is) to point myself in the right direction. Hiding a cache in the woods is a lot more difficult. It takes a lot of trial and error to get the right readings. What you can do, however, is use a lot of visual or descriptive clues to get to the cache, even if the location is off a bit. I did that with My Monte Cristo Cache in Washington State - Too many clues, in fact! Someone found mine without the need of a GPS unit. Jeremy Quote
