I am interested in buying a Garmin RINO 120 but I can not tell if you can upload waypoints to the unit from your computer or you have the enter they by hand.

I you can not do this is there a better unit to buy that will do this?

Yes you can upload waypoints. The advantage of the Rino 120 over the Rino 110 is that the 120 comes with the upload cable. At least it should. Thus it is a better deal than the 110 and then purchasing the cable later.

My family has both a Garmin Rino 110 and a Garmin Venture. Both are good units. Some of us prefer the Rino while others of us prefer the Venture.

I am still a little unclear. B)

I know that the computer cord will upload maps and has the possibility of uploading usable waypoints but I wanted to make sure that it could be done.

 Has anyone done it, or is there an assumption that it could be done?

Sorry I just want to make sure?

Owning a 120, I can say yes. It's definitely possible to upload both maps and waypoints to the thing. Recent versions of MapSource (like the one that comes on the MetroGuide CDs) will work, and Garmin-speaking programs updated within the last 2 years should work (the waypoint format that the Rinos use was apparently published in Sept. 2001).

Again, yes you can upload maps and waypoints from PC to Rino 120. A new Rino 120 comes with a cable. EasyGPS is free and works great for transferring waypoints. To upload maps, you will need a copy of one of the various Mapsource maps (~$85 US).

You can look/demo the various mapsource map offerings here (see mapsource viewer in upper right):
