Guest cartographic
Stumbled upon this site when Garmin posted a link. What a great game! Curious to see if there any professional cartographers/GIS people out there who geocache? Quote Link to comment

Guest maps-r-us
Perhaps our username gave it away already, but one of us is a GIS/Cartographic specialist, the other is a forester/Natural resource/GIS specialist. We've been geocaching for about 9 months now and are totally addicted. We thought our cache hunting might slow down through the rainy Oregon winter, but the opposite has been true. This is the perfect hobby/sport/game for us map junkies! There are quite a few map/cartography themed caches around the country - we've also placed one here in Portland. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=11447 Have fun!! Guest geomapper
I guess my user name may be a hint. I am managing the GIS implementation for our local government. Been doing quality control on lots of orthophotos, planimetric, topo, and cadastral mapping. This sport is a perfect fit. Went out with some guys with a survey grade GPS last year to verify some of our contractors data. Its amazing how acccurate those really expensive units can be. Quote Link to comment
Guest exConn
My position title at work is officially Cartographer. However, although I used to create mapping products in the past, I now mostly support other cartographers as a System Manager... -exConn ------------------ What is Project Virginia? Guest web-ling
I've none some "semi-pro" (paid, but part-time) cartography and field checking work on orienteering maps. Quote Link to comment

Guest oregone
i got a B- in cartography. it's not for lack of love for maps. it's because i couldn't comprehend the Layers feature on Freehand. That, and i care not for the geography of Lakeland, Florida. Stupid University of Oregon--i coulda been a contenda. Quote Link to comment
Guest barefoot
I'm a GISer! Of course, I would never use company (er, government) time to d/l waypoints and tracks into ArcMap in order to plot them on DRGs draped over 10m DEMs using 3D Analyst. No sir, not me. Quote Link to comment

Nor would you use a limited distribution ADRG and drape it over DTED to create fly-bys! Quote Link to comment
