+user13371
Does anybody have reasonably accurate coords for the "Fremont Troll" in Seattle? I know it's at/near 36th & Aurora Avenue, but I need to pre-set a waypoint for it. Travellng in Washington & Oregon next week, and will be teaching wife how to navigate in and around cities using GPS. I'm planning to pre-program a couple of "surprise" waypoints for her to find without telling what they are. The troll is a little big for a virtual, don't you think? But I figured this would be easier for a beginner to find than an urban micro --- LDR. Quote Link to comment
Moun10Bike
What I have in my GPSr (from a recording made several months ago) is N 47° 39.062', W 122° 20.824'. This should be reasonably close, although signal blockage by the bridge makes this somewhat suspect. Quote Link to comment

Lost Outdoors And Mapquest both put those coords on the north side of 36th, just east of Aurora Avenue. Out in the open, not beneath the overpass. I think that's probably close enough. To be sure though, is this at least the right part of the intersection from which to approach and see the troll? --- LDR. Quote Link to comment

Out in the open, not beneath the overpass. That doesn't surprise me. I parked on the east side of the overpass and walked under to the troll, then took my reading. The coordinates probably represent the last good lock that I had. You could probably shift the coordinates about 40 feet or so west and be pretty much right on. The troll is definitely on the north side of 36th. You can't miss it once you get there! The easiest approach is to come up 36th from either Stone Way or Fremont Ave., or to drive up the road running underneath Aurora from Northlake Way. This road dead-ends right in front of the troll. +geospuds
That was the first one we did. Bring a measuring tape for waypoint 2! Quote Link to comment
+Uplink
There is a cache that uses the troll as a waypoint, and the coordinates given are N 47° 39.071 W 122° 20.831, which seemed to work pretty well as I recall! Quote Link to comment
Moun10Bike
Those coordinates worked for me too since it's hard to miss the troll, but I seem to remember them being off a fair bit. For some reason, I recall thinking that the hider must have tried to record under the bridge like I did with my coordinates. Quote Link to comment
