Renting a GPS

Recommended Posts

Hello there. I will probably be getting a GPS device for my birthday at the end of July, but I would love to have one temporarily to help with a hike.

Is there a good place to go to rent a GPS device? Does REI rent them? If not, would somebody on the Central California coast be interested in renting their GPS to me for a couple days?

You might want to go to the regional forums and see if you can find someone to tag along with a little. I don't know if anyone there is going to have a receiver you can borrow, but chances are you can find someone to try to catch up to. It's the next best thing, and you get to actually meet another cacher, which is cool as well.

If you can't get access to one I suggest you buy a decent compass and a topo map of the area you'll be in. Thats all you should need for now and you can always use a compass when you get your GPSr. icon_wink.gif
