Guest RLO
Will the Mapsource topo maps have as many roads, less roads or more roads than the base map in My etrex legend? Also can I download my tracks onto the topos (in the PC) and save and/or print them for future reference? Can I upload them back into my GPS? If I load topos, into my gps, for a specific area and travel outside that area will the base map "come back"? Thanks Ross Quote Link to comment
Guest peter
The MapSource Topo maps are based on the USGS 1:100000 series and have the roads shown on those. This will generally be more than on the base map but the USGS maps are not updated frequently, so in some cases you may have roads on the base map that are not included on the Topo. You can preview the map detail by going to Garmin's web site and selecting Cartography - click on the picture of a MapSource CD and you'll get to a page where you can select a MapViewer and the map you want to preview. Be sure to zoom way in and select 'More' detail to see minor roads and features. With the Topo loaded, the base map will still be present and it will appear whenever you 1) zoom out far enough, 2) leave a region covered by the loaded Topo maps, or 3) turn off display of the Topo map for the area displayed on the screen. Guest k2dave
Zoom in and most roads are there but few are named. Ironically some major roadways (parkways, interstates, highway bridges) have small pieces missing. I am very happy w/ topo and use it for car navigation down to the street level among other things. Yes you can create routes and upload them. Quote Link to comment
