My wife and I located our first cache today and had a great time; that is, when we were able to get enough coverage to get a fix. We're using a Magellan ColorTrak that I've had for a while. Has there been any major improvement in the sensitivity of the newer units that makes them less prone to lose signal under cover? Has anyone done a test to determine the best unit for use in the woods? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

xternal ant. (and carrying a 60 foot pole to attach it to) ... tree cover is your enemy. Much better than just a few years ago .. before the 12 channel parallel units. But ... for a possible assist ... take your reading in your last clear area and use a compass to pace out a bearing. Since summer has come ... that's pretty much what we have to do in some of the heavier wooded areas. When you can get a signal ... the epe is so large that it doesn't help. So ... a good reading and some good basic compass skills have worked well ... so far 16 finds ... no misses. Good luck ... hope my 2 cents worth of info helps.
