platoon13r
Quick question ... I have searched and searched as to why I am unable to save/view particular information relating to my track log after I import them into MapSource. I do not see Time, Depth, Leg Time, Leg Speed ... Any thoughts would be appreciated - Thanks (again!) Quote Link to comment
+RB_Nielsen
I have a Garmin GPSr V. I download the tracks from the GPSr into Mapsource, and go to the "Routes" submenu. There are often several routes that show up in the Routes submenu, and double clicking one of them will bring up a pop-up window that has all of the information you are looking for. platoon13r
Thanks for the input. I called Garmin to explain my issue listed above. Apparently the tech support person received additional clarification from his manager ... the unit will only retain the additional detailed information if it is the Active Track Log ... if you save the track log, you will loose the info. They are now aware of the issue and realize this is not a benefit. Nonetheless, I appreciated your input. Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
They all work the same. A substantial data reduction is carried out when the active track is stored, with a name, in the unit. My Vista does so too. Anders Quote Link to comment
gbc
The only way to hold all track data is to download the active track from your unit with mapsource or any other prg. Remember not to save it in the unit before you download it. gbc Quote Link to comment
platoon13r
I have found it interesting to know the time associated with each leg of my adventure. I didn't realize most, if not all, units behave in a similar fashion. I can see the benefit to saving space, but I think it would be great to let the user configure the saved fields. Nonetheless, the Garmin V is GREAT! BTW - I have been using an old version of Mapsource and recently downloaded the upgrade ... they have done a nice job adding additional features. +ZachNLiam
For anyone who's interested, you can take your active track in MapSource (even delete the parts - or legs - you don't want) and have them plotted in 3D (or 2D elevation profile) with this program: http://www.randyjensenphoto.com/gps/height_dis.zip You EXPORT the MapSource file as a .txt file and then this little program plots it. Pretty cool! I uploaded it to my own website because I can't remember where I found it. If the author doesn't like me doing this, please let me know! Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
From version 4.09 (or was it earlier?), you can plot your track elevation in 2D in MapSource itself. Anders Quote Link to comment
platoon13r
When I called Garmin regarding the track log issue, I discovered my recent purchased version of MapSource was 4.04 (or something very close). After updating to 4.09, I noticed a small handful of differences (one being the elevation plot). Quote Link to comment

How exactly do I export it as a text file into this program? I have the program, but can't figure out how to get the tracklogs from MapSource into this program. Quote Link to comment
+ZachNLiam
then you choose File- Export. It will give you a dialog box asing you for a name and file type. Call it whatever you want, and drop the little box at the bottom down to select Delimited Text (.txt) as the file type. Then open Height, and use the little icon that looks like a text box and you can import the .txt file you just created. Hope that helps! Quote Link to comment
+ZachNLiam
I don't see that option. I have 4.09 installed. Where is it?!? Thanks! Quote Link to comment
platoon13r
You can find the elevation indication by viewing the Track Properties (right-click on the track, left-click on Track Properties) and then click the button 'Show Profile' ... hope this helps Quote Link to comment
