It's been a couple of years since I was there ... and that was the year before the change over ... but as a rule ... the further away from the hotels and airports ... in other words where Europeans and Americans linger ... the better the prices ... Ask around with the staff at the hotel you're staying at ... generally they know the correct places to find deals. There use to be an area that looked kind of shady that I went to with some friends ... that had the best deals I've ever encountered ... but I have no clue as to how to get there ... I just remember there were some really great resturants and about a billion people pushing and shoving. Quote Link to comment
blizzards
I was just in HK in December 01. I'm not at all sure that Electronics are cheaper there. I was on the lookout for a Digital Camera and a handphone. After much looking ard, I think prices in Sg are comparable or less. Jus a thot In addition, I had a hell of a time getting a lock in their city. Too many buildings that are close together .. Anyway hope u have better luck - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! - Quote Link to comment
+worldtraveler
I've done a lot of shopping but very little buying in Hong Kong during the last 5 years. I've found only a few electronic items in Hong Kong that I couldn't buy cheaper on eBay or similar sites. Know comparable prices before you go, and know EXACTLY what you are getting before you pay. Most of the electronic shops in the Kowloon area (where you will probably be shopping) are masters of the "bait and switch" technique. Be sure the warranty on your intended purchase item is valid in your home country; it may cost you extra if its available at all. Worldtraveler Quote Link to comment
OFF RODE
The problem with buying a GPS in Hong Kong is that an hour later you want to buy another...... "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." Yogi Berra Quote Link to comment
GPS_JENS
Having been to HK 14 odd times, I recommend you get on the web and order one before you go there. [There are several caches there already] "The warranty is only valid within the confines of the store !"--many times true. I live in Japan and have bought my GPS III+, eTREX and eTREX Legend on the web: best price, new gear, works great. All the best/ Jens Quote Link to comment
