  1. Initially I had wanted to buy the GPS V but found it too costly (esp since I live in Sg which has no support for auto routing). But after using the GPSMAP 76 for a while, I grew to like the big screen and it's sensitivity. But somehow I never thought it was as hardy as my GPS 12. With the GPS V, I feel a lot better but I do miss my GPSMAP 76 sometimes .... Whichever you get, they are great GPS units !!! - Batteries?! ... no one told me anything abt putting batteries in these things !!! -
  2. When I was abt the purchase it, the first unit the salesperson took out of the box had a loose Goto button. In fact it dropped right off. He apologised and changed another set which i used happily for abt 5 months. Then the Goto button dropped off?!?! I sent the unit back to the shop for repairs and after 2 months of waiting, I lost patience and topped up to a GPS V. ( paid quite a bit more too ) I'm not sure if this bad experience was just a fluke, but 2 units in a row is too much. I used my GPS 12 for years and nothing dropped off! So far I've been quite happy with my GPS V altho I find that it's jus a tad less "sensitive" than the GPSMAP 76 (jus a feeling) Hope this helps !! - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -

  7. I managed to understand a little after reading it for the 5th or 6th time Jus jokin' Tony ! but it really is amazing how a lot of "problems" with the GPSr clears up once you've read the manual ... I shud know .. *hee* -blizzards- - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -

  12. HI umc, I've been following this post with considerable interest as i recently traded in my GPSMAP 76 for a V as well. I really like the V although, I do find that it is somewhat less "sensitive" than the MAP76. My experience is quite similar to yours. I found that with any GPSr I've used (GPS 12, MAp76, V), it's always seems to keep a lock better after I've established a "good" lock before moving on. -blizzards- - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -
  13. Well, we'll certainly try to set up another one close by to Orchard Rd. Maybe somewhere near the Istana. There's a nice park jus in front of it that has some promising looking hidey-holes - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -

  15. Hi Team Dragon, Yes, I think I know the place are you're referring to. If I'm not wrong, the govt has built quite a few public housing blocks not too far off. It does indeed sound like a good spot for a cache I was however looking for a spot in town for the convenience of tourists/cachers who happen to be in the Orchard Rd area. Hmm .. I'm thinking of placing one at Mt Faber. Have you been there before? There's already a cache not too far from there, so any cachers in the area may want to do both at once - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. 17. Well .. clank they do .. sometimes .. maybe more for the particularly defiant ones .. but I suppose most of us are more or less used to it But seriously, most of what is heard is normally a little bit exaggerated. Still, I can't deny that Singapore has "better" enforcement than most countries. I'll leave it to you on how to interpret that - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -

  19. Recently I hid a cache in a bush. Well granted it was off Orchard Rd and being near Oxley RD, is prob one of the best maintained park in Singapore. Even then, I was rather careful in hiding the cache and made sure to cover it up nice and snug with branches etc. 2 days later, it's gone. Most likely an over zealous park attendant. Ah well, I'm cracking my head over another good location. Maybe something that involves a long hike to nowhere .. I'll post it soon once I've found the right spot! Jus wanted to let off some steam at losing a cache *sob* - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -

  21. Hi cyclops_monkey, I guess basically what Harrkev means that getting a GPS is a personal choice. There's quite a lot of models out there that will do what you need. Then beyond that, it's a matter of bells and whistles. The easiest way to start of it to make a list of whatever you need in a GPS and your budget. Where the 2 intersects, that's what gives you the most bang for the buck Lemme know what you bought .. i'll be really curious .. - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -

  23. I was just in HK in December 01. I'm not at all sure that Electronics are cheaper there. I was on the lookout for a Digital Camera and a handphone. After much looking ard, I think prices in Sg are comparable or less. Jus a thot In addition, I had a hell of a time getting a lock in their city. Too many buildings that are close together .. Anyway hope u have better luck - Lost?!?!! ... Who? .. ME?!?! -
