Garmin III Plus bearing arrow missing!

You don't give a lot of details, so I assume you had good sat signal (ready to navigate), didn't lose signal due to heavy tree cover, or other obstruction, and that you selected a waypoint, and entered "GOTO". If there is no waypoint selected to GOTO (GPS doesn't know where you want to go), or there is no sat signal lock (GPS doesn't know where you are), there will be no pointer.

So the only thing I can figure is maybe you activated the "Big Number" feature instead of "Big Compass" and don't recognize the compass page because it looks so much different.

HERE is a link to the manual for the GPS III +, Page 21 (per the pdf reader, not the manual) shows the "Big Number" and default compass page options.

Hope this helps, if it doesn't, try giving more details.

If trees could scream, would we still cut them down?

Well, maybe if they screamed all the time, for no reason.
