Garmin V and Track Log

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the input.

I called Garmin to explain my issue listed above. Apparently the tech support person received additional clarification from his manager ... the unit will only retain the additional detailed information if it is the Active Track Log ... if you save the track log, you will loose the info.

They are now aware of the issue and realize this is not a benefit. icon_smile.gif Nonetheless, I appreciated your input. icon_smile.gif

I have found it interesting to know the time associated with each leg of my adventure:). I didn't realize most, if not all, units behave in a similar fashion. I can see the benefit to saving space, but I think it would be great to let the user configure the saved fields.

Nonetheless, the Garmin V is GREAT!;) BTW - I have been using an old version of Mapsource and recently downloaded the upgrade ... they have done a nice job adding additional features:).

For anyone who's interested, you can take your active track in MapSource (even delete the parts - or legs - you don't want) and have them plotted in 3D (or 2D elevation profile) with this program:

You EXPORT the MapSource file as a .txt file and then this little program plots it. Pretty cool!

I uploaded it to my own website because I can't remember where I found it. If the author doesn't like me doing this, please let me know!

then you choose File- Export. It will give you a dialog box asing you for a name and file type. Call it whatever you want, and drop the little box at the bottom down to select Delimited Text (.txt) as the file type.

Then open Height, and use the little icon that looks like a text box and you can import the .txt file you just created.

Hope that helps!
