Does anybody know of a mounting to fit a magellan 315 to the handlebars of a mountain bike? Or has anybody modified something to do the job?

Here's what I use for my eMap (it would work just as well for any handheld).

I take a small piece of foam packing material and put it over the handlebar stem. Then I place the eMap on top and hold a rubberband under the stem. Now loop one end of the rubberband up and over the GPS and loop it around the bottom end of the GPS. Now do the same with the other end of the rubberband from the other side of the stem. Repeat with a second rubberband looped around the top end of the GPS. For redundancy, repeat with two more rubberbands. Replace rubberbands once per week to prevent UV deterioration (the paperboy brings me a new one every day). The mounting process takes about 10 seconds.

I crash way to often to mount even inexpensive GPS on my handlebars. But, I do ride a mountain bike with the philosophy that if you have time to look at your GPS or speedometer you're not going fast enough. Not to mention every where that has been used to hide caches here in the Cleveland area won't allow mountain bikes. icon_frown.gif

But more to your question if you really want to mount a GPS on you bike check out R-A-M mount.

I don't own one personally but I have heard alot of good things about them. They're a little expensive but they look pretty good.

I don't know about the Magellan. I have a Garmin EMap. The tiny mounting piece that attaches to my GPS started to wear and break over time on too many bumpy rides. I sent them email and they replaced it for free! I was very happy. But, I think I'll try Peter's suggestion too.

By the sound of it Peters suggestion seems the best. If I'm going to spend cash only to find it breaks after a few trips I might as well try the do-it-yourself method.
