Verification of Cache pages?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I made my latest cache page last night and still hasnt been approved yet 24 after I did it....however Dan did another one which was verified in 3 hours...Does anyone know why the time it takes varies so much? I have dont htem in the past and they have been almost instant.

The cache I planted is in a place where a cache was previously..I have replanted it there. What are your thoughts on this? Is it ok to re-plant them for other people even though the previous cache got archived. (Cache in question is the Pit near Penn)

Thanks

I'll be interested to see how long another cache here lasts, it might be better to set Pit Near Penn as a virtual site, then at least there is nothing for people to trash once they've finished with everything else they leave in the pit!

I'm not entirely sure what's involved in verifying a cache, but if it was my job, I'd check the location to make sure it's not obviously silly e.g. 1,000 miles from land, on the South runway at Heathrow etc. I'd probably also run a check to see if there are any other caches at the same coordinates or nearby. I suspect if there were they might look into things more deeply including sending an e-mail to the owner of the existing cache. In fact in your case, if the text of your page says "This replaces cache GCxyz" I would definitely send an e-mail to the original owner. So it's probably being delayed while they wait for a reply to say "yes that's OK".

The second ten million caches were the worst too.

If only you could see the number of caches the admins have to approve (clue: there are lots). If I see a uk cache in the list waiting for approval I will check it out and approve it. If you feel it neeeds to be on sooner mail me and give me a nudge... this is not an open invitation for all uk geocachers to mail me to approve all the caches, just if you need it approving urgently or you feel it has been a long time in approval.

I've wondered about the process myself. When planting 3 or 4 in a batch I've had all but one done almost straight away and then the last one doesn't get done until the next day.

This isn't a complaint, just an observation.

In fact I'd be delighted to volunteer to help out but don't know where to ask or even if any volunteers are needed.

Peter could verify that it is the best hidden cache for the location. It will not e plundered...I can assure you of that.
