Thanks for the link to history (again!).  Any clue at all to when they were placed?  Maybe as a reference object in a PID'd mark?  MEL

Sorry, I haven't researched this. I was just struck by the irony of what looks like a survey market that says it isn't.

Hah, that's really interesting and neat.

Now I'm tempted to have a few custom disks made that simply say, "This is not what you're looking for." ... 50 years from now, someone will find it and go, "What?!"

But if you put one too close to a bench mark some geocacher will still claim a find for it.
