Delete waypoints/caches from Garmin Nuvi 2598

Can Somebody help me? I've searched here as well as the elsewhere for this info.

Situation: I've got a Nuvi 2598 with I don't even want to think about how many waypoints and caches on it. The memory is getting full, as in I can't save custom waypoints in the field.And for whatever reason, the unit won't recognize a microSD card.  I've updated the unit and the Garmin software on my computer(Basecamp and Mapsource). I would really rather not delete all waypoints, as there are some unrelated to caching that I want to have on the unit.

 

Should I just import those waypoints into software of choice, then delete all points. Then just transfer the points back to the unit?

There's got to be an easier way. I wish you could have the "Internal Memory" list up in Basecamp and delete points as you want. You know, right click, remove from device that would work for single points as well as having multiple selected. 

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
