  1. Can Somebody help me? I've searched here as well as the elsewhere for this info. Situation: I've got a Nuvi 2598 with I don't even want to think about how many waypoints and caches on it. The memory is getting full, as in I can't save custom waypoints in the field. And for whatever reason, the unit won't recognize a microSD card. I've updated the unit and the Garmin software on my computer(Basecamp and Mapsource). I would really rather not delete all waypoints, as there are some unrelated to caching that I want to have on the unit. Should I just import those waypoints into software of choice, then delete all points. Then just transfer the points back to the unit? There's got to be an easier way. I wish you could have the "Internal Memory" list up in Basecamp and delete points as you want. You know, right click, remove from device that would work for single points as well as having multiple selected. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Very long time lurker, cmor2000
  2. I'll keep my eyes open, but somebody let me know of a Black Friday deal on one of the new Garmin etrex 30's. It's between that and the 450 if I have a choice. Steve
  3. I've been asked to find a decent GPSr for my cousin. Funding around $200. He favors Garmin units so far. I found some deals the new eTrex 20 and an Oregon 200. Which one would be the better purchase? He's relatively new to caching and that would be it's primary function. I've looked at the specs for both, so I know the "Factory" differences, but am wondering about "field" differences. I've read the other threads concerning the issues people are having with the eTrex. At least Garmin seems to want to improve things. Whereas the Oregon 200 is now discontinued and may not have any kind of support for much longer. Is the touchscreen really that big of a deal? I don't know personally, and don't plan on seeking one out for myself until current unit dies. Any help/opinions welcome. Thanks Steve
  4. I was talking to a fellow cacher yesterday, and the topic of geocoins came up. We hit upon a question neither of us is sure aboout the answer: If you have a geocoin that you truly enjoy but don't want to risk it being lost in the wild, is it frowned upon to release a facsimile and not the original coin? This all assumes said owner doesn't log "visits" or allow anybody else to log "discoveries." Just posing a question, not looking to start any problems. Steve
  5. Does anybody know of a geocaching store in PA? Doesn't matter where in the state. There used to be an official one by Pittsburgh but they seem to have closed the physical store. I'm just curious to go look for official containers, trackables, what-not. Thanks in advance, Steve
  6. I forget the name in the log, but he wrote "You've been salted! BAHAHAHA!" The cache was packed with salt. Coins were buried in it. And yes, it was salt. I could smell it as soon as I opened the container. I sent a message to the member who placed the cache, letting them know the situation. I'm glad to see you guys have senses of humor, too. I was enjoying the puns.
  7. I'm pretty new around here, so I have, what is probably, a stupid question...What is salting of a cache? I found 2 of them today. 1 was just a little bit, but the other was packed full of salt. Is somebody trying to dry out a damp cache or just being a rotten hooligan?
