Pandanimal
Today in a cache I found a key with a number stamped on it and GEGE on the front. Is it a tradeable? and if it is what should I do with it now? This is only the second time I have looked for caches so afraid I am a real newbie. Any help would be much appreciated. +cerberus1
GEGE is a lock company well-known in the UK. Looked at your profile and see that's where you are. You found a key. A trackable with have this site's name on it. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
If you haven't seen it yet, most trackable basics can be found here in the Help Center. There's a good bit of information in Geocaching 101 , with a link to the Help Center there as well. Quote Link to comment
Pandanimal
Thanks Cerberus1, I did go and have a look around at the official stuff. I guess it's not possible to make your own trackable then? They have to be purchased. Thats a shame. Quote Link to comment

The codes that allow them to be tracked on geocaching.com must be purchased (e.g. as dog tags), but they can be attached to (or engraved on) anything you like. 1 Quote Link to comment

You do need to purchase a trackable for the code. You don't need to use that trackable for it's code. We have one (a Travel Bug) that's never been used as a Travel Bug. Instead, it's code is hidden on a part of the other 2/3rds motorcycle. We know many folks who've "reused" their codes from "missing", long-gone trackables. - Some send them out again as other objects. Most we know reuse the code on objects that stay with them (hiking sticks, backpacks, dog collars...), limited only by imagination, to be Discovered by others at events, or bumping into them on a trail. Some simply look online for trackables on sale, we've found that in-a-pinch the standard Travel Bug is often the cheapest. Quote Link to comment
