Add that this isn't the only one, and of the ones I DID find and checked online.. it's all by the same NGS agent.

I wonder if this is some kind of calling card, for years in the future, and am now wondering if I should do something similar. (I mean, it's been 15 years.. and noone's found it.)

So, anyways..

I'm rebuilding my database for the Google Earth template.

This station was found while loading:

Same station, but different State, County, Country.

And, in case anyone is wondering, the Google Earth plugin -EXCEPT for the USGS overlays - will be back up no later than Monday!

Well, they say everything is bigger in Texas, but I hadn't heard that it applied to months.

The Marshall Island location is what comes up when I look up the PID at NGS.  It appears that Geocaching didn't load the marks in the Pacific, as that one doesn't appear.

I note that NGS must not trust their Pacific geoid model to be as good as most of the US, since the ortho elevation is rounded more than the numbers that go into it.  I think Ellipsoid Ht minus geoid equals orthometric height if it is GPS derived (or very close to it if the mark has a leveled height and it was a constraint on the fitting of the geoid).

Yeah - I noticed that - and notices some sheets outside of the 'US' has a few other oddities (just as being set many, many years in the past, but the 'Monumented' date is recent,. like in the early 2010's..

In either case, the GE KMZ should now show stations. Updated as of August!

Here's another fun one!!

God, I love this crap. :D

PID: DQ8778

This has two interesting notes. First, if you go to try and pull up that PID on the website (using 'By PID' option), you get:

INPUT ERROR - Invalid mark.
Contact NGS
Run Terminated.

This mark IS AVAILABLE in the montly archives, and what I believe is causing the error is this odd Vertical Accuracy:

DQ8778* NAVD 88 ORTHO HEIGHT - 84.75 (meters) 278.1 (feet) h-N COMP

"h-N COMP"? I haven't seen that one before. Whohoo.
