+Lazyboy & Mitey Mite Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 A few weeks after we throw our little event called LazyBoy & Mitey Mite Bash we thought we might sponsor a little competition here in the Butte Falls area and I'd love some imput. My basic idea is to have a little "geo-sprint" sort of thing. I would supply trophies for the top 3 finishers. There would be no entry fees. Just a fun day for all hopefully. Here's my thoughts so far. We would meet in Butte Falls. My plan is I would start everyone off at the same time. They would have to locate 4 or 5 caches in the vicinity and make it back to the starting area. First back wins, second and third also receive a nice glass engraved trophy. This is a rural area and traffic is very low, but I do have concerns about speeding. Hopefully that won't happen. I thought about making it all on foot but I fear that this would eliminate older cachers or those out of shape. Any thoughts here? I guess I could ask our local marshall to set up a speed trap???? I also thought the caches would be easy to spot once you get close, and inside each cache you would find an inked stamp with which you would stamp your starting card. After you fill your card it's time to head back. Think this would work? I would try to keep the total time well under two hours. Butte Falls is small but we have several ways out of town. I felt we wouldn't have an exact course, wouldn't matter which way you go first. This way it won't be a parade. Or a drag race. I would appreciate any suggestions about this. Also give it some thought if you would. We can discuss this more at our little event in June. Never Squat With Yer Spurs On Quote
Syn Posted May 12, 2002 Posted May 12, 2002 Give the teams five flags each. Set a perimeter that they can hide them in. Then have them go hide them and also set ground rules as to the difficulty and terrain settings. example 3 flags must be placed within x area with a difficulty of 1/1 1 can be placed with 3/3 and one can be a multiple waypoint with 3/3 or combinations like that. Then have them come meet back at home base give all the other teams the info and then send them out to find each others stuff. Give them an hour or so to find them. This can be possible if the designated area is small enough. OR you can do it with only 3 flags for each team. Than way you can have clear winners as the first team back will win. ... the only problem I see is if a team gets to a flag that has already been claimed. You can also supply say white flags for a team to place there when they take a flag so another team will know that that flag was replaced. oooh ooh...I just thought of this. have each team replace the flag they take with one of their flags ...that way another team can still claim that. if the flags are replaced by each team that finds one, then the next team did not make the find in vain. That way the team that left their flag is still ahead and it keeps it fair for the next team. Quote
+Lazyboy & Mitey Mite Posted May 12, 2002 Author Posted May 12, 2002 We have an event in our area much like you suggested already Wayne. Quad throws a Dash for Cache and this is close to the format he uses. I thought I'd place the caches for this one since I have good local knowledge of the area. I could better present people with terrain challenges and route challenges. I think a big concern for me is people driving around the area too fast. But as I said I don't want to eliminate those who are older or out of shape by making it a foot race. Do you think the stamp idea would work? Or should I place flags. +MattandLaura Posted May 12, 2002 Posted May 12, 2002 without checkpoints it would be difficult to keep people from speeding around. You may want to do a timed event, where one team leaves then 15 minutes another team leaves. That way you could curb part of the speeding. You may also time it out yourself to see how long it takes you and anyone beating that time is disqualified. I don't think you will have too much of an issue though. Quote
