+miltreynolds
This week I posted my first puzzle cache: Speak, Friend, And Enter (http://coord.info/GC4R0TZ) However, I soon realized I needed to offer a Check-Your-Answer online page. I visited http://www.geochecker.com/, but as far as I can determine, it only allows users to check coordinates. My puzzle required finders to identify three non-coordinate data: The password The numeric value of the password (simple substitution code) The number of paces to walk No matter what search terms I tried, I could find no website that offered a check-your-answer solution suitable for my puzzle cache. So, I searched for a JavaScript solution. With the help of http://www.htmlgoodies.com/ I gained a basic understanding of coding to create a simple check-your-answer program. You can see it in action here: Check-Your-Answer You can download the basic code here: check-your-answer.js You'll need basic HTML/CSS/JS skills. I recommend going through JavaScript Diaries, an online, free tutorial provided by HTML Goodies. Have any of you found other good solutions for this problem? Quote Link to comment
+K13
How does the cache finder determine what length pace to use? My pace is around 5.7 feet, my wife's is close to 4 feet. If the required number of paces is more than around 5, we are looking at a substantial GZ difference. If the number of paces is 100, her pacing puts her GZ about 175 feet from mine, and where does your pace fit in there? The cache puzzle is pretty cool and I'm sure someone from Middle Earth would approve. Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
Certitude allows you to have the answer be a keyword. if that helps any. Although I solved your puzzle by using your checker, I didn't look at it carefully enough to determine if it would be possible to rearrange it so a keyword checker would do what you want. +stijnhommes
Look at the checker on my puzzle cache from globalcaching.eu It allows you to check anything, not just coordinates. Quote Link to comment
