Guest degauss
My husband just discovered this website in one of his magazines, so this is the first time I ever heard of this. It looks like great fun, and I think we'll try it. I read several entries from cachers', and at the risk of sounding like a real neophyte - what the heck is a chainmail ball??? Quote Link to comment
Guest Seamus
I'd be willing to bet that you did a search and found one of the caches Fergus and I visited recently -- possibly Balls Bluff Regional Park? Chainmail is armor formed from interlinked metal rings, worn by knights, and more recently actors, butchers, and shark divers. A chainmail ball is a small (about tennis ball sized) ball made of this, stuffed with cloth to give them shape and some "squooshiness". They're great as desk toys, anti-stress devices, and if you have three, juggling implements. Fergus has been making chainmail for a good long while now, and has taught me a bit. The chainmail ball you were wondering about is one of his contributions to the caches we've visited. They've got quite a bit of "cool value", and the first one he left wasn't in the cache 24 hours before someone claimed it as their prize. Of course, with Fergus leaving just one ball per cache, you'll have to hit three caches after we've been there to get a full jugglable set. Provided the URL works in the forum, a picture of three balls and a pouch can be found at... http://www.tinkersfolly.com/images/balls_and_bag.jpg Happy Hunting! -- Seamus KC5UGQ Frederick, MD [This message has been edited by Seamus (edited 03-21-2001).] Quote Link to comment
