Guest jeremy
I received this today from Andrew. Neat story! > I just started geocaching a month or so ago and I am looking forward > to putting out my own cache. I just lost my GPS while searching for a > cache a few days ago. I had taken a fall after crawling through some > thick underbrush and finally realized that the GPS was no longer clipped > to my belt! I searched and searched, but I just couldn't find my little > eTrex. I was too exhausted from the afternoon heat and steep trails > along the Chattahoochee river, so I had to head back rather than risk > heat exhaustion. > I posted my story to the cache page and several fellow geocachers > went out searching for it. Someone found it and was honest enough to > tell me so. I called this guy back last night to claim my GPS and offer > the reward to him. We must have talked about geocaching for 45 minutes > on the phone and then another 30 on his front porch. I told him I was > prepared to offer a reward, but he declined the $25. He said that it > sounded like I had a bad day out there and he was happy to have found > the GPS for me. I guess it was like a double geocache, since he found > the original cache and my GPS! > It is just this type of camaraderie that will keep geocaching going > for a long time to come. So, in order to pay my reward I will contribute > my reward money by establishing a new geocache in the area very soon. Quote Link to comment

Guest makaio
I lost my old GPS searching for a local cache as well. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=2528 I looked for it unsuccesfully for a few hours and again the next morning. I posted this information when I logged the cache find. I also posted it here in the Northwest forum, but I wasn't as lucky as you. I didn't receive any replies and to the best of my knowledge nobody ever found it (or looked for it). Glad to hear you got your back. Mine's still MIA Quote Link to comment

Guest PharoaH
I am still amazed that someone found the GPS and told about it. I think it would be a real temptation to keep the GPS for a friend or spouse. Honestly, I'm having so much fun Geocaching that I was going to buy another one this week anyway I just think using the reward money to establish a new cache would be the best way to reward the community. I am going to do a lost and found theme. I would like to include items that are commonly lost and found. I am planning on: A neat keychain - Who hasn't lost their keys before? An old wallet with a few bucks in it - I hope you've been fortunate enough to never lose your wallet. Sunglasses - Many times I've leaned over the edge of the boat and donated sunglasses to a lake Please share any good ideas for this theme that you have! Quote Link to comment
